FYI: Last years AGI amount

I just completed e-filing for 2019. One of the requirements for e-filing is entering last years AGI amount.

When entering this amount make sure you use the decimal point and two zeroes.

I did not.

The next page then showed the amount that was not correct. When I went back and corrected the amount on the original page, it did not update on the next page. It held the original amount that I entered. You can once again correct the amount on the next page, but there is no further confirmation that the amount will be sent as you last entered.

I guess I will find out in a couple days if my filing is rejected.

Here is how to correct your AGI and submit your tax return:

  1. Sign in to your account and click Fix my return.
  2. Select File on the left side menu and continue until you reach the screen titled,  To continue, select from the options below.
  3. Enter your corrected AGI in Enter last year's AGI here.
  4. Click Continue and keep following the screens until you've re-transmitted your return.

Julie,

I received the rejected filing email due to the error I described. And yes your solution works. But it should not have been an issue in the first place, as I noticed my mistake prior to submission of my tax return. I was unable to edit the amount in the program.

I have since contacted customer service via phone and they are going to submit the issue to the tech people who hopefully will correct it in an update.

Thank you for your response.
