Form 8915F

I didn't file a form 1099-R nor did Turbo Tax generate a form 8915E (now 8915F).  Turbo Tax won't let me e-file.  How do I work around this?

I'm not sure I understand the question, but some of this may help.

  • is the error stating that you need a 1099-R?

Do you have a 1099-R that you have to post?

On sidebar

  1. Select Federal
  2. Wages & Income
  3. Select Wages and Salaries, or Revisit
  4. Scroll to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  5. Select the type of income.
    1. IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)
    2. Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099)
    3. Canadian Registered Pension Income
  6. At this point you can edit an existing document of [Add another 1099-R]
  7. If a new 1099-R continue to Let's import your tax info
  8.  You can import by selecting your provider.
    1. Follow the instructions.
  9. —----  Or to post manually —-------
  10. [Change how I enter my form]
  11. [Type it Myself]
  12. Post your information.

If you do not have to post a 1099-R, is there one listed that you have to eliminate?

First try to delete the record by selecting the Trash Can on the right side of the record.  If this doesn't work, you can follow these steps.

  1. On the menu bar on the left that shows.
    1. My Info
    2. Federal
    3. State
    4. Review
    5. File
  2. Select Tax Tools
  3. On the drop-down select Tools
  4. On the Pop-Up menu select Delete a Form
  5. This will give you all of the forms in your return
  6. Scroll down to the form you want to delete
  7. Select the Form 1099-R and/or 8915-(EorF)
  8. Click on Delete.
  9. Always use extreme caution when deleting information from your tax return.  There could be unintended consequences.

Did you take a disaster relief that you have to make a final payment on?

I know this may not completely answer your question, please contact us again and provide some additional details.

My 1099-R was from 2021.  No I didn't take a disaster relief in 2020 or 2021.

This is what it shows:

CHECK THIS ENTRY

"Form 8915F-S: _You indicated there were retirement distributions received in 2022 related to a disaster that happened in 2020or 2021.  It requires Part 1 of form 8915-F which has not be finalized yet.  Do not file this return until this part of calculation is finalized in the upcoming release. "

I have retirement distributions in 2022 but not related to a disaster in 2020, 2021 or any other time.

How do I correct so I can file?

If you didn't take a disaster distribution in 2022 or prior years then you can delete Form 8915-F by deleting the "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distribution and Repayment Worksheet"  (8915E wks).

In TurboTax Desktop:

  1. Switch to Forms mode on the top
  2. Scroll down and select "8915E wks"
  3. Click "delete" and confirm the deletion
  4. Switch to Step-by-Step and run the smart check again

In TurboTax Online:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools".
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, select "Delete a form".
  4. Select "Delete" next to "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and follow the instructions.
