Form 5695 Joint Occupancy Statement

My daughter and I own our home jointly but she paid the cost of replacing one of our heat pumps in 2024 so will take the full credit on her taxes.  The form states "If special rule for joint occupants applies, check here (done by TurboTax) and attach a statement."  What should the statement say? Do I need to indicate I will not be filing for the credit on my return, and do I need to include my name and Social Security number?

The statement is to clarify how the credit was allocated between two or more occupants, but if only your daughter is claiming the credit because only your daughter paid for that upgrade, you should not be filing form 5695 and you should not be claiming any credit.

Simply ignore that credit, do not report replacing the heat pump, your daughter is.

(I'm assuming you each file your own tax return)
