Filing after October 15th deadline, Is the Free TT online software version no longer available to use to to enter your tax information?

I am asking because when I try to start my return it takes me to the page to select an option for a version that has a price associated with it?

I realize I got a late start, obviously. I saw where it looked like I could use the version of the software from last years filling. Yet it take me to the same page to select a paid version of the software.

So bottom line - do I need to purchase the basic version of TTax software to file my 2023 taxes?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Sorry it's too, late to start a 2023 or prior online return or use the mobile app, either on Turbo Tax or the IRS.  And too late to efile 2023.

If you need to start 2023 or prior you can buy the Desktop download here,

TurboTax 2022 Prior Year Tax Prep - File Past Years' Taxes

You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.

If you have a simple return and want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand.  Here are some basic forms.....

Here is the 2023 1040 return

or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors,

Don’t forget your state.  And you will have to print and mail your returns.  So be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

I'm not sure what you are seeing, but I know that if you start a return online now, you won't be able to e-file, even if you pay.  At this late stage, you need to buy Turbotax as a download to install on your own Mac or PC.  You can buy direct from Intuit, or probably still from some reliable online sellers like Amazon or Best Buy.  You also won't be able to e-file, so expect to print your return and mail it in.
