Filed "married jointly" for 2016 taxes. Husband was first name on return. Divorce final in 2017. Filing separate taxes for 2017. Do we both claim state tax refund?

We itemized deductions on 2016 taxes.

You both claim the state refund however only 100% of it will be reported (you both do not report the entire amount).

So you can split it and report half or use another method such as a percentage of income earned on the 2016 return if you earned 55% then report 55% of the state refund.

Let the other party know how much of the state refund you are reporting what method of allocation you used.
