I've tried to eFile twice and both times it's been rejected. TurboTax tells me "The XML data has failed schema validation. This return was not e-filed due to a timing issue or a processing error that has been corrected. No changes are needed ... it just needs to be e-filed again. If the reject continues you may need to print and file this return by mail."
This is really annoying. Anyway to fix it?
same issue happening here, same error, same "fix" offered by turbotax.

Is your rejection code X0000-005? If so, that makes at least 3 users I've encountered with this in the last hour or so. That's an unusual cluster for this uncommon rejection code. Something may be trending.
I'm curious if it's linked to a particular state. What state are each of you filing?

Yep, same rejection code X0000-005.
Filing Federal and CT State.
Count me as another one. I'm trying my 3rd time to refile. The error code being returned is: X0000-005
Am filing an AZ return with my federal return.
Just rejected a second time after following the TurboTax instructions to "fix" it. I'm at a loss...
Federal return rejection
Reject Code X0000-005
OK, I'm reporting it to a forum Moderator who will have TurboTax investigate, but they may not be around on Sunday, so it might be tomorrow before they see it.
Hold off for now, and see if the problem recurs tomorrow. Maybe some server will reset overnight.
If it's still present tomorrow, call Support to report it (instructions provided above), and they may need to question you.
There's also another thread you can follow to see if anyone posts there.
third rejection. :( currently on the phone with a specialist.

I didn't realize they were open today. They had been closed on weekends the last 6-7 weeks. I guess they've started weekend hours again now that it's closer to filing deadline.

Oooops, sorry....Just noticed you do not have the Champ indicator.
I have the same thing happening. I have tried twice to submit today with the same error and same response from turbo tax. t
I am having the same issue with my tax return. I submitted my son's return and it went through.
Most likely an error with the Federal return. if there was only a problem with the state the Fed would probably go through. A federal rejection automatically results in a state rejection. since this seems to be a recent issue, I would wait til Monday to submit to see if TT fixes the issue or has a solution.
The XML data has failed schema validation. The reason for this error is
The most common reasons taxpayers receive X0000-005 XML Schema Validation Errors:
1. You incorrectly used one or more of those little grey boxes (Tax Literal Fields). The forms contain small
grey boxes that appear to the left of where you put your figures. These areas appear throughout the form.
a. You should not put any data into these areas unless the form instructions tell you to do so.
b. Properly entering a Tax Literal usually requires input into a description field and a corresponding
amount field. The description field is usually the first Tax Literal field and may accept alpha and
numeric characters. The "Amount" Tax Literal fields only accept numeric characters.
c. The program will only allow one Tax Literal (a description field and an amount field) per line.
d. If instructed to enter a Tax Literal, you must enter the Tax Literal exactly as it appears in the form
instructions. Include any capital letters, but do not include any quotation marks. There are tables
below that show the acceptable Tax Literals; however, you should always consult the instructions
for the form you are working on.
2. All the necessary lines/boxes of the electronic W-2 were not complete
3. Taxpayers put erroneous information (other federal withholding)
here are some other possibilities
IRS rejection X0000-005 occurs when something inside the return is not conforming to IRS standards.
There are several possibilities that can cause this rejection since it covers nearly every field in a return.
Tips for troubleshooting the return:
Check for extra spaces between letters or words.
Check for symbols that may have been entered, such as:
Ampersand (&)
Dashes (-)
Asterisk (*)
@@ sig
Commas (,)
Check for text in fields that are numeric.
Check for information entered on the wrong line.
Check for phone numbers that are incomplete.
Check for NA, N/A, or NONE in fields that are not required.
Check address fields to make sure every line is blank if an address is not required.
Check address fields to make sure every line is filled in if the address is required.
Check for duplicate descriptions. Each description of property or asset must be unique.
Check fields that have an amount entered and requires a Type or Description of the amount.
Check codes on the W-2 and make sure the letters are capitalized.
The same issue happened to me - rejected 3x in past 2 hours ... filing federal and NYC state from Indiana location
Same issue! Any advice on how to bypass the automated system when calling support? Very frustrating trying to speak with an actual person. I can't seem to get out of the automated system and then it tells me I have to pay to talk to someone since I am using the free edition, which I am not - I've paid over $200!
alright, i just got off the phone with support after *3* rejections - she confirmed that there was nothing amiss with either my state or federal return, and my state was only being rejected because the federal was.
She said that this should be corrected tomorrow and is an error on the side of irs/possibly turbotax and not to attempt to resubmit it again until then when it should be fixed.
however she did say that if more people have this issue, they should report it here so turbotax understands the extent of the issue.
same issue. were rejected four times today. please advise-
Same error. Will wait 24hrs to resubmit per TurboTax support.
same issue here using desktop home and business from utah x3 subbmissions
