F1040X-041 rejection / RefundAmt on 1040X does not match total on form 8888 - yet it does!

Anyone seen this one?

My federal amended efile was rejected with:

"F1040X-041 - If Form 8888 is present in the return, then Form 1040-X, 'RefundAmt' must be equal to Form 8888, 'TotalAllocationOfRefundAmt'."

 

Checking the forms, the 8888, box 8 is equal to 1040X, box 35a, so not sure what the problem is or how to fix, short of not using form 8888.

You appear to be comparing the wrong line on Form 1040-X. 

Line 8 of Form 8888 should match line 22 of Form 1040-X, Amount of line 21 you want refunded to you.  There's no line 35a on the current revision of Form 1040-X.
