Extension -Where do I enter on 1040SR that I paid my estimated tax via IRS Direct Pay

My return, which I will file in the next couple of days, still shows that I owe the tax.  How to I let the IRS know that I used IRS direct pay to pay the estimated tax. I have my confirmation number.

To enter, edit or delete estimated taxes paid (Federal, State, Local) -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
On Estimates, click on the start or update button

Or enter estimates paid in the Search box located in the upper right of the online program screen. Click on Jump to estimates paid

Hi, Hank, TurboTax has a section where you can enter estimated tax payments made during the year as well as payments made with an extension.

In TurboTax, you will want to navigate to Deductions and Credits. From there, scroll down until you see the section that says "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid" and click to expand that section.  You will then be able to enter any federal, state, or local estimated tax payments made by clicking on the Start next to the "Estimated Tax Payments" option.

If you filed an extension and need to enter the amount paid with the extension request, you will want to stay in Deductions and Credits, under Estimates and Other Taxes Paid, but then click to start the section called "Income Taxes Paid", and you will then be able to enter amounts paid with any extension requests.

Hope that helps you find the sections needed to make sure all your payments are included on your tax return!

Here's a quick way to get to many topics:

  • Click on the magnifying glass on your TurboTax screen and type in "Estimated Payments".
  • Once you do that, you should get a list of items, the top one should be "Jump To". Click on Jump To and TurboTax will take you to that section of your tax return.

Here's how to get to the section by menu in TurboTax Live:

  • Deductions & credits
  • Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  • Estimated Tax Payments

From there you will enter the date you made the payment (use the closest match from the menu, then change the actual date) and the amount. This will then show up on your 1040 on line 26 under estimated payments.
