Why is Turbo Tax stating erroneous information? Yesterday I prepared a tax return then went to efile and received the message that the IRS was not accepting returns until 1-31-22. They have actually started accepting returns today 1-24-22. Also when I tried to efile the California state return, Turbo Tax stated that a form a needed was not currently available. So I went to the Franchise Tax Board website and was able to efile the return with no problems. It seems as if Turbo Tax is not updating their information so then the taxpayer is given erroneous information.
"Available" for TurboTax is no the same thing as "available" on the state website.
There is more to being able to use a form than just it being available on the state website. In order to make a form available in TurboTax, not only must the form be coded, but it must then be approved by the state and at the same time, the code behind the form needs to be done as well as testing not only on the state but on the federal return and other states.
No tax software vendor can roll out state forms on the same day as the state does, because there is so much work that needs to be done behind the scenes.
If you look at State Forms Availability, you will see that there are many forms for California that are not yet available in TurboTax, even though the forms themselves are likely available at the state website.
I do not know where the 1/31/2022 date came from but, as you note, the IRS began accepting e-files today.
