Entering Line 14 of form 2441 on TurboTax Online

I have contributed $5000 to DCFSA in 2023 of which I used $2250 in 2023. My employer allowed me to carry over $2750 to 2024 for use by Mar 15, 2024.  This carry over amount should be entered on Line 14 of Form 2441. However, TurboTax Premier Online doesn't ask me a question related to this where I can enter this carry over amount. Consequently,  Line 14 on the form 2441 is empty and this has an implication on my total taxes. Please let me know if there is a solution or a workaround to this issue.

Thank you.  The information is recorded after the entry of your W-2s.  Once you have completed the W-2 with the dependent care benefits in Box 10, you will be prompted to answer the following questions:

  1. Search (upper right) > Type w2 > Click the Jump to... Link > Select Edit beside the appropriate W-2 > Continue through the screens until you reach the one with the following questions.
  • Did your employer provide on-site child care? Continue
  • Did you have a Flexible Spending Account to pay for child or dependent care?
    • On this page you must enter any amount that remains in your account at the end of the year. If you used it all enter zero.
    • See the image below.

Per the instructions for Form 2441:

  • Line 14:  If you had an employer-provided dependent care plan, enter on line 14 the total of the following amounts included on line 12 or 13.
    • • Any amount you forfeited. You forfeited an amount if you didn't receive it because you didn't incur the expense. Don't include amounts you expect to receive at a future date. • Any amount you didn't receive but are permitted by your employer to carry forward and use in the following year.

If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:

TurboTax Online:

Go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.

  1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
  2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
  3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
  4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number and your state. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

TurboTax CD/Download:

If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:

  1. Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax CD/Download for Windows
  2. Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'
  3. Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue.
  4. We can then review your exact scenario for a solution.
  5. Please also tell us any states included in the return. This is necessary for us to view the return.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.
