Electronic filing inputting prior years AGI

First year filing electronically for a friend who has always mailed their return in.  Turbo tax asked for prior year AGI for Him and then Her.  I put the same amount in each as they have always filed married filing jointly.  Should I have just put the amount in for one of them and put zero in the other.

Thanks

If they filed their 2021 tax return as Married Filing Jointly then the 2021 AGI is entered for both of them on the 2022 tax return for e-filing.

Thanks, that is what I did but the IRS rejected it stating that the AGI did not match.  I verified with what was mailed but not sure if they made any adjustments or not.  I guess the next step is to get their transcript for 2021 to see what the IRS has for them.

Thanks,

@georgefranciscus There is a possibility that the IRS may not have their 2021 AGI in their database if the 2021 tax return was mailed or if e-filed and it was late in the 2022 year when it was submitted.

You can try entering a 0 (zero) for the 2021 AGI and e-file the 2022 tax return again to see if the IRS accepts the tax return.

Thanks for the information.  It was quite helpful.
