Electronic federal return was accepted but state return was rejected

Our electronically filed federal return was accepted, but our electronically filed state return was rejected. The Intuit TurboTax supplied reason in an email is:

'REJ001 - This state return was rejected because the federal taxing authority has not yet accepted or has rejected the federal return."

which makes no sense because the federal return was accepted. The email also says, "To update your return: Once you've opened your return in TurboTax, the details about what's causing the problem will be displayed." This is not true because when I reopen the program nothing is displayed or prompted. 

What am I supposed to do?
