If you have a 6 digit PIN issued to you by the IRS you need to enter it in order to e-file.  Go to Federal>Other Tax Situations>Other Return Info>Identity Protection PIN and enter the six-digit PIN.

Please tell me where (what site) do I enter Federal>Other Tax Situations>Other Return Info>Identity Protection PIN. TT absolutely will NOT let me enter my 6 digit IRS pin.

@SalemBill

To enter, edit or delete a 6 digit IP PIN

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Other Tax Situations
Scroll down to Other Return Info
On Identity Protection PIN, click the start button

I can't find >Other Tax Situations under Federal.

As soon as I select efile, TT leads me to options how to pay>Direct Debit Consent>When Will Account be Debit>Verify 2023 AGI>Sign Your 2024 Return and there are PIN field with 5 digits.

Please help with more details how to enter 6 digits PIN provided by the IRS.

Thank you.

Here are two ways to navigate to the section to enter the 6 digit IP PIN:

  1. Log in and open your return ("Take me to my return")
  2. Once the return is open, then go to the Federal Taxes tab.
  3. Subtab Other Tax Situations
  4. Scroll down to Other Return Info.
  5. Choose Identity Protection PIN and Start (or Revisit.)
  6. Next screen asks:  "Did you or any of your dependents get an IP PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes?"

Or another way:

  1. Open your return if not already open.  ("Take me to my return.")
  2. Once the return is open, click at the top on MY ACCOUNT, then choose TOOLS.
  3. In the Tools window choose TOPIC SEARCH.
  4. Enter IP PIN without quotes.
  5. In the selection list highlight IP PIN and click GO.
  6. Next screen asks:  "Did you or any of your dependents get an IP PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes?"

None of this is working!!

And there is NO information to make the adjustments. PLEASE Get this together.
I have a six digit pin given to me by the IRS and when I change it like told above. It still insists of only 5 numbers!
I would certainly like to file on time!

Thanks!

I entered the 6 digit PIN in the other tax situations area. However, when I try to efile it already contains a five digit number. I tried deleting the 5 digit but I cannot proceed without a 5 digit PIN.  please tell me if this can be fixed.

@jimdmc15 The 5 digit e-file PIN can be any 5 digits you select.

You do not have to delete the self-select 5 digit number.  Just leave it alone and use it along with the IP PIN from the IRS.
