I am trying to e-file 2021 (on extension) for a married couple filing jointly for the first time. My spouse moved to the USA officially in 2021, although we were married in 2020. Last year (2020) I checked MFS since he did not live in the USA and had no earned income overseas so he although I checked MFS filing status, he did NOT file since it was not required. I had to file 2020 on paper since he did not yet have a SSN.
This year he received his SSN and I completed the 1040 through TT however it was rejected and the reason given was that MY AGI did not match the IRS records. I double checked and it DOES match. For his AGI, I put "0" since he did not file. Could this be the problem? Would that then mean that I must file on paper again?? If that is the case, does anyone know of a workaround for a first-time filer, first year filing MFJ? I am due a nice refund and I dread the idea of waiting a year for someone to look at my return. Please help!!
