This rejection concerns Part II of form 1116. It is asking for an explanation form, but the best documentation for the error code is old (circa 2014) and it asks for a explanation for column that no longer exists (column k, which is not a check box).
The textual error code is this:
/Return/ReturnData/IRS1116/ForeignTaxCreditSource/ForeignTaxWithheldOnDivAmt - Data in the return is missing or invalid.
The 2014 efile logic rules says this: If for any country in Form 1116, Part II, column (k) 'ForeignTaxWithheldOnDivAmt' has a non-zero value, then [ForeignTaxWithheldOnDividendsStatement] must be attached to column (k).
There is an explanation statement for currency conversion supposedly attached to this line, but I can't tell whether it is actually being transmitted.
This worked last year. Anyone know whether the IRS or TT has changed in this area.
This was my problem. In column "l" I had entered a country name, and the IRS was expecting a date.
TT could have flagged this for me, but didn't.
It worked for me too. Enter a date. If Various does not work enter a date like end of year in numeric form. The Form 1116 in forms mode in Turbotax can be edited before re-submission. Turbotax should definitely flag this or provide a clue as to what to do.
