Turbotax state during processing of taxes and on their material that one state e-filing is FREE, yet at the end of tax form preparation there is a charge of $10 for "refund guarantee" and it is not an option. It doesn't matter that I don't wish to pay for such an option, the e-file will not finish unless the charge is settled. If Turbotax is going to advertise one free state e-file, then do so without charging for some other fee.
I assume you are using the Desktop CD/Download program? In the Desktop program you get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is $20 to efile, usually goes up to $25 March 1. Or you can print and mail state for free. There might be a $10 credit when you buy the Desktop program you can use towards the state efile fee.
And if you want the fee deducted from your federal refund there is an Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California) which you can avoid by paying with a credit card.
Go back through the File tab to review or change your choices. Go slow and pay attention to what you click on to continue. There is one screen that can trip you up.
