Due to major medical situation, I need to file 2023 and 2024. Can I do 2024 first and have that submitted on time? And then submit 2023 which is already overdue.

I missed filing 2023…major medical interruption in life. I’m gathering all my papers for 2023 and 2024. Can I file 2024 without 2023 being filed. I want to submit 2024 on time and submit 2023 right after as it is already late/overdue.

It's not recommended to do this, especially if you have any carryovers.  You also won't be able to report the prior year tax in case you had an underpayment penalty and wanted to claim an exception for paying in 100% of prior year's tax. These items may necessitate an amended return.

Instead, you may consider filing an extension for 2024: Free Federal Extension
