I did not like paying for state either, and the first purchase for state is just to download forms.  You then have to pay again to file (so I paid $64.98 total for 1 state).  Anyway, you should be able to review your 1040 to see where the discrepancy is.  Sometimes a tax program will not allow certain deductions/credits unless you upgrade, so most likely, your CD does not contain a deduction/credit that your online tax form includes.  I suggest trying 1040now.  I used them every year until now, and I thought it might be simpler with Turbotax.  It was just more expensive and required upgrades for additional credits.

You can download your online return as a .tax2018 File without paying for online.  Then you can open it in the Desktop program and printnor look at the forms to compare.

First download the .tax2018 file from the Online version,

Then see, How to Switch to Desktop,

And by the way, in the Desktop program you get 1 free state program download to prepare unlimited state returns.  Then each state return including the first one is currently 24.99 to efile or you can print and mail state for free.
