Does TurboTax file your tax return or do you send it in yourself?

Only the user of the software can file their tax return either by e-filing or printing and mailing the tax return.

You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "

Transmit my returns now

".

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.

if you e-file the return is transmitted to the IRS/state by Turbotax. if you chose to mail it, that's a do-it-yourself project.

on an e-filed return, you will get two e-mails the first will say submitted. the second will say accepted or rejected. accepted means you're done.  rejected means there' an error that needs to be fixed, if possible.  if fixed, you can re e-filed. if it can't it will have to be mailed
