Does Turbo Tax plan to support form 3800 for E-file?

Should I wait to E-file or file by mail?

The Form 3800 is included in the personal editions of TurboTax and can be either e-filed or printed with the 2017 tax return. See this TurboTax support FAQ for IRS forms availability - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1908854-irs-forms-availability-table-for-turbotax-individual-perso...

Enter 3800, general business credit In the Search/Find box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 3800, general business credit

I get a message, We won't be able to E-file your return. It looks like you have a form or tax situation in your federal return that TurboTax doesn't support for e-filing. We do support it for filing by mail. Here are the details: you have an amount on Form 3800, Part III, Line 1aa Credit for Affected Disaster Area Employees. Do you plan to support this form in the near future?

Form 3800 Part III Line 1aa is for Employee retention (Form 5884-A). The IRS has only released a Draft Form 5884-A and not the final form - https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/f5884a--dft.pdf
Once the IRS releases the final 5884-A it can be completed and filed with the tax return. The tax return will have to be printed and mailed with the Form 5884-A attached.

Are you saying it will never be available for E-file?

The Form 5884-A, no. It is not supported by TurboTax so it will have to be mailed with the tax return.

I know it is not supported now. My original question was, does TurboTax plan to support it in the near future?

This is a user community forum so we would not have an answer to questions on whether or not TurboTax will support certain forms in the future.

I get the same message. My S Corp filed the 5884-A and I am simply claiming it off the K 1 on my 1040. Can I try to E File now: 3/21/2018

It makes no sense. The credit is reported on a partnership K-1 so it is pass-through to the partners and is reported on form 3800. The PARTNERSHIP files the 5884-A, not me. Why won't TT allow the pass-through credit on form 3800 and e-file?

From Schedule K-1 instructions: Generally, you are not required to complete the source credit form or attach it to Form 3800 if you are a taxpayer that isn't a partnership or S corporation, and your only source for a credit listed in Form 3800, Part III, is from a partnership, S corporation, estate, trust, or cooperative. (Instead, you can report this credit directly on Form 3800, Part III, and enter the EIN of the partnership in column (b) of Part III.)

Unfortunately, Form 3800 is set up that way, but the K-1 Instructions carve out Form 5884-A from this rule. It makes no sense to carve it out the 5884-A in this scenario because Form 3800 requests the partnership EIN and the 5884-A does not request that information, but merely the flow through amount from the partnership. The problem is that Turbo Tax should have been able to incorporate Form 5884-A into e-filing once it was released in February.

I understand Turbotax did not support E-filing form 1040 if there is an entry on Form 3800 Part III, Line 1aa in June 2019. So here we are in April, 2021, TWO YEARS LATER, and the IRS does have a form 5884-A.

Is there a way we can E-File the 1040 form rather than print it out?

Would appreciate the most current thinking on how to E-File this with TurboTax.

Businesses reported on Form 1040 can be entered in a number of different ways depending on what type of entity is being used.

For a Schedule C business, these details could be captured as a Business Expense.

To do this in TurboTax CD/Download Home & Business, assuming the Forms W-2 have been issued, from the BUSINESS tab, at Your Business, scroll down to Business Expenses and click Start at:

 • Other Common Business Expenses
 • At Let's write off some business expenses, scroll to Employee Expenses
 • At Employee Expenses, click Start by Employee Wages and Work Credits.
 • At Let's get your employee wages and work credits, scroll to the appropriate credit area and enter your details.

When entering the expenses for a pass-through entity, Form 5884 details should have already been captured in TurboTax Business before reporting Schedule K-1 details on Form 1040.

It looks like this issue has not been around since 2019. Has TT not been able to resolve this issue?

Which state are you currently filing? This will help us to look into this further and give the best answer. @Dan7591

Florida. I don't need to file state taxes. I just want to be able to file federal taxes electronically.

You won't be able to file electronically with Form 3800. Part III, Line aa. This entry ties into Form 5884-A which cannot be filed electronically.
