Does the CARES Act count as a stimulus payment?

I got 1500 during my spring semester in 2020.
When I filed my 2019 taxes I wasnt sure of I was claimed as a dependent by my dad so I just mark yes to being/can be claimed. So I didnt get the stimulus check of 1200. I wasnt actually claimed and didnt know how to change it after I had filed so I left it be.

If you did not get the stimulus in 2020  AND  if you are not a dependent in 2020 then you will get the stimulus on the 2020 return you will file next year.

Just follow the interview ... everyone will see this screen in the Federal Review tab ...

The question about the amount you got in the advance stimulus payment doesn’t happen until the END of the interview.  By then the program has already calculated the credit and has included the amount in the refund meter you see at the top of the screen.   UNTIL you get to that screen where you can indicate how much you actually got in the ADVANCE payment the program cannot know what the correct amount really is.  So once you enter in that amount the program adjusts the credit accordingly depending on how much you already got and the refund meter will change appropriately.

the real question is CAN your parents claim you as a dependent in 2020, regardless of whether they do or not.

if they CAN, you are not eligible for the stimulus payment

if they CAN'T, you are eligible,

2nd stimulus will work the same way.
