Q.  Does taking surveys at home count as a side gig job or income I can enter or both?

A.  All income is reportable, unless it is specifically exempt, in the tax code.

How you enter it, on your tax return, depends on more details and what you are trying to accomplish.

It sounds like you may want to call it "earned income" so you can claim some tax benefit (usually the earned income credit and/or the Additional Child Tax credit).

Yes, being paid to do surveys will usually qualify as self employment and earned income. You file it on Schedule C.

Schedule C is appropriate if you're in the business of taking surveys.  As the IRS puts it, Use Schedule C (Form 1040) to report income or loss from a business you operated or a profession you practiced as a sole proprietor.

If you're not in the business of taking surveys, just report the income as "Other Income" on Form 1040, Schedule 1.
