Does overriding amounts transferred from previous year's TT prevent e-file this year?

Hi,
I have a case such that an amount transferred from an e-filed TT'20 return (desktop) is wrong.
I.e., the data was transferred correctly, but I made a mistake by indicating an overpayment of state income tax. (Tax paid amounts are correct though, thus there is no reason to amend TT'20.)
I can override the wrong amount in the data transferred worksheet but it has been suggested that this will make e-filing of this year's taxes impossible.
Could anyone clarify whether this is indeed the case?

Thanks

Usually an override does prevent e-filing since the system can't verify the data.  This is a carryover from the prior year so it may not.

Is there a quick way to find out whether such change makes the return non-efileable before I enter all the data?

Yes.  Enter a very limited amount of data - maybe just your W-2 or something.  Go forward as though you were finished and check to see if it will let you efile.  The catch is that you'll have to pay for the software before you get to the efile screen.
