Does my child dependant file taxes separate since we claim him?

It depends.  If your child made less than $12,200, the child does not have to file an income tax return.  However, if the income was less than $12,200 and taxes were withheld from his/her pay, then your child should file a return to get a refund of the taxes withheld.  You can find taxes withheld in box #2 of the W-2.
