Does it really cost $69.98 to add and eFile an additional state to my return beyond the first "free" one?

I understand that I need to pay $44.99 for an additional state to my return, but does this price include eFiling that additional state?  If not, there is an additional eFile charge of $24.99 for a total of $69.98 - for only one more state!  This is crazy as this amount approaches what I paid for the basic federal and first state software!

Sorry yes.  You still pay the efile fee or you can print and mail state for free.  You mean for a return in a different state, right?  Not just for another person.  Because the first free state program download can prepare unlimited state returns in the same state.

There is no state efile fee if you print and mail the state returns.  There is also no state efile fee for New York state returns.

NOTE:   Be aware that it's best to pay that fee by credit/debit card.  If you choose to pay it out of your Federal refund, there is an additional 39.99 service fee (44.99 for California filers.)

Thanks for the answers.  I used to recommend TurboTax to my friends - no longer.  They have gotten too expensive and callous about charging fees for this and that.  This is exactly why I stopped having my taxes done for me and started using TurboTax!  I went to the state's website (Missouri) and downloaded a form-fillable PDF and did them for free.

Sorry TurboTax, but you lost a loyal customer for next year.
