Yes it makes a difference.  Do you qualify as Head of Household?  Do you have a child?

Yes it makes a difference.  Your tax expense will likely be lower.  If you are qualified to file as Head of Household, you should do so.  You will have a larger standard deduction ($21,900 for Head of Household versus $14,600 for a single) and wider income brackets (keeping you in a lower rate for higher income compared to a single).

Here's how to adjust this in TurboTax Online:

1. While logged into your TurboTax account, navigate to the left of the screen, under 2024 Taxes, choose My Info

2. At the top of the screen, under Your Info appears your name, click your name to expand options, then choose Edit

3. Continue through the interview pages until you arrive at About your household

4. Answer the question "What was your marital status on December 31, 2024? to change your filing status
