Do veterans receiving a retroactive VA disability award get a refund on taxes paid in past years?

I was awarded retroactive VA disability (80%) in Oct18 going back to 2012. I am now receiving now both VA disability and CDRP on my military pension starting Oct18. Can I file an amended return for past years of taxes paid on my military pension prior to being awarded VA disability and CDRP from DFAS?

Yes you do. However, you have to follow a specific procedure as outlined by the IRS. See this web site for the details.
