Do the dates separated from spouse have to be 7/1/2018-12/31/2018 or just a period of 6 months. This is in regards to the living with your spouse, filing separately

The separation must be the entire last 6 months of the year to qualify to file as Head of Household when you are still legally married at year end.  In tax terms, this is called "considered unmarried".
