Hello, I received for the very first time a 1099-G form from the government. It is for a state refund from my last year taxes. I am confused if I need to include this on my 2018 taxes because from what I have read, if I claimed the standard deduction (which I did) then that amount is not considered to be taxable income. Am I correct on this and do not have to report it? Also, why would I even receive this if I chose the standard deduction? Thank you.

that is correct; if you used TT last year and carried over the information, even if you keyed in the 1099-G, TT is smart enough to exclude it.
the state wouldn't necessarily know you took the standard deduction last year 🙂
