Do I need to file an extension or can I do nothing since the 2022 federal tax deadline was extended to Oct. 16th for most residents in CA, San Diego County California?

Although, the deadline was extended Following the disaster declaration issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, individuals and households affected by severe winter storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides that reside or have a business in Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Del Norte, El Dorado, Fresno, Glenn, Humboldt, Imperial, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Lake, Los Angeles, Madera, Mariposa, Mendocino, Merced, Mono, Monterey, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Benito, San Bernardino, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Mateo, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Sierra, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Trinity, Tulare, Tuolumne and Yuba counties qualify for tax relief. It will not hurt to file an extension to be certain you are covered by the extension.  To file the extension you can use the following link:

Also pay your best guess of anything you may owe. If you overpay, it will be refunded. If you underpay, it will only calculate penalties on the part that was not paid. TurboTax has a tool called TaxCaster to give you an idea of your tax liability and/or refund.
