Do i need to file a 1099-misc if it is under $1500

i helped my dad work a few times last year and he issued me a 1099-MISC, the amount i made with him was $1420.00   so do i need to file this and try to claim as much of my personal expenses on a self employed return, even though i do not own my own business? or is it unnecessary for me to claim it?

You will need to file this income, as it is considered self employment. Although this isn't money from your own business, you are considered a subcontractor. You will be allowed to deduct any expenses that you have.

Thanks for the reply! I have another question. Will I need to purchase the Turbo Tax self employed version to be able to be able to claim the deductions?
