It's my understanding that my federal tax return has to be attached to the California tax return when filing.
If I'm in an registered domestic partnership (RDP) and we are filing separately for federal, should I include both federal reports in addition to our joint RDP state return when mailing my state tax return?
Yes, please send copies of your Federal returns with your California return, but do not send any Federal "Mock-up" returns.

What if I'm in an RDP, but we want to file our state taxes separately? My instructions say to include my federal return. Do I include the one I actually filed or the mock-up? Thanks!
Do not include your mock returns. Include the Federal return that was actually filed.
I'm a little confused about all this. Other forums on TurboTax are saying to include the mock federal return if filing a different status on the state return.
In my case my federal return is filed as single. For my CA state return I'm in a RDP so I'm filing as "married/RDP, filing separately". I'm asked to include my federal return and it printed out my mock federal return used to create my state return. Do I include that one or the actual federal return that was filed with the IRS?
You will not send the mock return. You will keep that for your records.
