Do I have to upgrade? It says I paid excess social security tax. I wanted to use free turbotax.

2 jobs: 1. SS wages $144,170 tax withheld $8939 2. SS wages $25091 tax withheld $1555.64

You should not have to upgrade from TurboTax Free Edition if you have a Social Security excess withholding. I tested it and I was not asked to upgrade.

Your wages do exceed the Social Security limit for 2024 of $168,600, just slightly ($169,261).

Your excess is due to multiple employers: For tax year 2024, you'll have excess Social Security withholdings if the sum of multiple employers' withholdings exceeds $10,453.20 per taxpayer. Your total is $10,4,94.84 for an excess of $41.64. It occurs because each employer does not know what you are making in total..

TurboTax will take care of this for you by automatically adding the excess to your federal refund or subtracting it from your balance due. TurboTax will automatically add the excess to your federal refund or subtract it from federal taxes you owe, whichever applies. The excess will appear as a tax credit on Line 11 of your Form 1040, Schedule 3.
