Do I have to file my 2020 taxes?

I did not make any income this year because I was unemployed. However, I did receive financial aid from my college. So, do I have to file my 2020 taxes to report the financial aid or no, since I didn’t make any income?

Also if filing for 2020 taxes, will I get the $1200 in credit since I didn’t get my stimulus check this year? I marked myself as ‘dependent’ by accident and I don’t think my amended return will be processed on time. It’s almost the end of the year and nothing.

if you don't file the IRS will look at the 2019 return and seeing you're a dependent will deny the credit in 2020.

of course, if you are still a dependent in 2020, then you won't get the stimulus so with no income there would be no need to file.
