Divorce and remarriage within same year, how do I handle it with the IRS?

I divorced in May of 2022, I intend to remarry in November after the required 6 month waiting period.  I want to file as married next year but I know the IRS is going to reject my 1040 because my spouses name will be different.  What is the appropriate process to handle my situation?

That shouldn't be a problem.  Don't file from your account.  Either file Joint in your new spouse's account or set up a new account.

Online is only good for 1 return per account.  But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts.   How to start another return in the Online version

The Desktop CD/Download program can do unlimited returns.

The IRS will not reject your joint tax return because you have a different spouse. They know that marriages end and people remarry. You don't have to do anything special. Just file your joint return normally.
