When the investment accounts are imported, we can not see the account on the 1099-INT or 1099-DIV. The only way to know what is going on is to correlate by the $$$ shown. Why does TT not show the account numbers???? The postcards on the summary DIV/INT page are useless.
The account numbers may not even be part of the imported information since they are not reported as part of your tax return. Therefore, TurboTax has no need for that information.
There is a tracking number on the 1099-Div/Int/OIDs. This is used by the IRS to confirm reporting compliance. That tracking information, or the account number - if reported, can be used to distinguish the imported data.
AnnetteB6, thank you for explaining. TT Schedule B shows all the imported numbers - and this is adequate for my own tracking. I can't determine which account apriori, but I can align the numbers to the account by going back to the investment company and downloading the 1099's summaries. Good enough: I'll do a deep dive on Schedule B next time.
