Disaster Distribution and this year's taxes

When I filed my taxes last week, I got the selection for Disaster Relief distributions. I thought it said that getting Covid-19 funds in 2020 counted in this category. I can't find any more information about that when I search online. Do the relief checks we received in 2020 count in this category as a disaster relief distribution (which I included on my tax returns for 2020), or is it only if we took money out of IRAs or other retirement funds in 2020 due to Covid-19 that we should check yes?

Just the retirement amounts.  Not the stimulus payments.  However, as long as you didn't enter any amounts in there you should be fine.

Thank you! Now, I can't go back to that page to uncheck it in the online software when I manually go back through all the sections. It has disappeared. Do you know anything about that?

Didn't you file last week?  if you've already filed then you can't fix it now.  You'll need to wait and amend your return.

No, I was trying to file, but because I said yes to that distribution, the software told me that I needed to wait for Congress to finalize the form before I could file. I paid to file, but I haven't filed. Since I already paid, I can't go back in and start over. I can only manually check the data. But I can't find that form again to say No and clear it out of my form so I can go ahead and file.

Please follow these steps if you didn't take any disaster distribution:

  • Go to Federal / Wages & Income.
  • Scroll down to Wrap up income.
  • Continue.
  • At the screen Did you take a disaster distribution at any time between 2018 and 2020? answer No

Hi, I did not get that option. My next option after Done with Income was three ads, then a page about Digital Assets.

Try closing TurboTax, clear your Cache and Cookies and then open it.   On the left-side menu, click on Tax Tools > Tools, then choose 'Delete a Form' from the pop-up menu.

Look for a Form 8915 and delete it if it's included in your return.
