Disability

I am a Californa resident. I went on disability in March 2021 and received payments from EDD through August 2021. I did not receive a 1099-G or similar form for this income and did not report it on my 2021 return. Am I in trouble here?

I thought I would not receive any more benefits so I applied for Social Security disability. However, I still had disability insurance through my employer and they sent me a lump sum payment for the period of Sept 2021 through March 2022 and are continuing to pay me monthly payments. Meanwhile, my Social Security disability was approved and they sent a lump sum payment for the period Sept 2021 to the present. I understand that I am to pay the Social Security money to my employer's disability insurance but the money is taxable.

How do I file my 2022 return? Do I have to file an amended 2021 return first?

I think you are good to go. Report your 1099-G if and when you get them. Report your SS-1099 when you receive this in the correct input box and you will be good to go.
