Did you support yourself in 2021?

I did not pay for more than half of my living expenses but neither did my parent.

It was paid through financial aid that I received from my university.  So do I put yes or no to answer the question because it sounds like TurboTax will assume that my parent paid those expenses?

If you paid for more than half of your support outside of your financial aid, then you answer "Yes" that you paid more than half of your support.  Costs covered by financial aid are not considered for the response.

Was the financial aid a grant or scholarship or a loan or payment for services?

I suggest you check with your parents to see if they are claiming you as a dependent.

If they are, then you need to check the box in Turbotax that states that someone else is claiming you as a dependent.

Note that the question you ask is about living expenses - food, room, etc - not school expenses.

I know this answer is incomplete, but I hope it points you in the right direction.
