Dependent college student got 1099 Misc - Should he file?

My dependent college student got a 1099 Misc for a prize money amounting to $750 he got from his sports federation. Other than that, he has nothing of his own as he doesn't work

 

I inputted everything in TurboTax and he does not owe any taxes in federal or state, nor does he qualify to get a refund.

 

Does he really need to file?

If the $750 prize is your dependent's only income for the year, he is not required to file a tax return.
