Current Mailing Address is different than 2022 Home Address

Hello,

If I lived overseas during 2022 and recently moved back to the States at the end of 2022 (mid-December), should my tax return's home address be the foreign address or my current mailing address in the US? Also, I should only have to file my Federal returns for 2022 without a State return, correct?

Thank you!

Your current mailing address in the States.   Whether you have to file a state return depends on the state you moved to and your income for the year.   You can check your state's filing requirements here.   Many states require that you file a state tax return if you filed a federal return, regardless of your anticipated refund amount.

Thank you for the info! I should have prefaced it by saying that I have been living overseas as a foreign resident for a while now and have previously filed my taxes under my foreign address. If I file my 2022 taxes with my current mailing address in the States, will I still need to submit the "Change of Address Form 8822" to the IRS?

Thanks!

No, filing your return with your new address will update the information in the IRS system.  You would not need to file Form 8822 also.

I concur with the reply/guidance above.  The link to state tax info is a great resource.
