CTC Payments

I filed MFJ in 2020 and we received CTC payments for 3 children, one child was my husbands from a previous relationship and one child was mine from a previous relationship and the third child that was biologically both of ours.  I am filing MFS for 2021 and I received Letter 6419 stating we received the amount for all 3 children (which is the correct amount).  However, my question is do I report the full amount that is stated on the Letter or just the portion allocated for the two children I am claiming on my 2021 tax return?  I don't want to be paying back his child's CTC payments since my soon-to-be ex-husband will more than likely claiming his son on his tax return.

You MUST enter the amount on YOUR letter  on your 2021 return and he will do the same.

Thank you.  But the Letter I received has the full amount for all 3 of our dependents not half like most people on here have stated.

As Critter-3 stated you will have to enter the amount from letter 6419, if what you entry differs from what the IRS has on record, it may delay the processing of your tax return.

If you believe the amount is incorrect on the letter (full amount instead half) then you can verify the amount at the IRS website. If you still believe there is an error then you will need to call the number on the letter and speak with the IRS.
