Completing W4 form for dependent Child working as an Intern - Would child be Tax Exempt?

In the process of Completing W4 for dependent child for Internship job. Child will earn less than $4000 from internship job. Is the child then exempt from Tax withholding? if so, how is that indicated on the W4 form? Is there anything else besides Step1 (a and b) and Step 5 on the W4 that needs to be completed?

If it matters, Child had temp job in 2022 and earned $1200 (total) and had $0 Federal Tax with-held and $4.24 State Tax withheld.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Would you verify, what tax form did the child receive? How old is the child?

Its the W4 form that the company has given to complete and return back to the company so that they can withhold taxes from the salary based on how the form is completed. Since the total salary is expected to be less than $4000 for 2023, I just wanted to confirm that the form should indicate the the child is exempt from Tax withholding. My understanding is that only Step1 (a and b) and Step 5 on the W4 that needs to be completed. If that is correct, how does one indicate tax exempt on the W4 form. Also keep in mind that child is a dependent on parent's tax filing and will continue to be for 2023 in onwards while still a student.

By completing only steps 1 and 5, you are claiming that they are exempt from federal withholdings and will make less than the standard deduction for the year.  If they will not have any other job, this is an ok thing to do.  If they will be working and potentially earning more with another job, then claiming exempt, may cause them to owe taxes at the end of the year next year.
