To add additional income:

  • Go to Federal > Wages & Income
  • Scroll down to the income type you want to add and click Start or Revisit

Can I use 2018 return to forecast 2019 income taxes? And if so, how do I go about doing that?

1099R

So I go in and make the 1099R changes. Then I should be able to see the revised taxes, right?  This won't revise my 2018 returns file will it?

@manskimom Whatever you do, do NOT mess around with your 2018 return and make changes to it in order to estimate your 2019 tax return.  If you do that, you will make a mess that will prevent you from being able to transfer 2018 into the new 2019 return accurately.

Instead, use the taxcaster tool, or just wait until December 4 when the online software for 2019 becomes available.  Desktop software is already available for 2019 returns.

@manskimom You posted something else as I was replying to you.  Just what are you trying to do?  Did you make a mistake on your 2018 return?  If you left out a 1099R that should have been on your 2018 return, then you have to amend the return by preparing a Form 1040X which has to be mailed in.  Post back if you need further help with how to amend correctly.  (you do NOT just go in and start changing the return).

If you are just trying to get an estimate for your 2019 return, then please review the answer already given.

No. Not wanting amend to my 2018 return. Just as I said. Must making a financial decision before 12/31 and trying to take advantage of technology! Thank you.
