I'm trying to file an amended return for an error I made on my original Detroit city filing. I work remotely but am employed by a company located in Detroit. I worked outside of the City of Detroit for all of 2021 but didn't make any allocation on Form 5121 (my mistake!). My employer provided a letter for this. I'm trying to work out how to file the amended amounts on Form 5119 and Form 5121. For reference, I had city tax withheld (from my W2) of roughly $200 and paid an additional roughly $500 (after filing my return). My questions are:
Form 5121:
1. In Part 1, column E, do I enter only the $200 withheld or $700 (since I've now paid $200 originally withheld and additional $500 after the original filing)
Form 5119:
1. On Line 9, do I enter 0 for income or do I need to enter the amount from my W2?
2. On Line 20, do I enter only the $200 withheld or $700 (same question as the Form 5121)?
3. On Line 25, is the overpayment the $200 or the $700? (this might be self-calculated by the software?)
4. Do I sent the amended return to Michigan Department of Treasury, Lansing, MI 48956 (instead of 48929 because its a refund this time)?
General:
1. When I filed the original return, I sent a cheque about a week before the deadline but it was deposited one day after the deadline. I was charged interest/penalties as a result. Do I get these back since I don't owe any city taxes? Alternatively, is there a way to apply for it to be refunded since it was never owed to the city?
