"Choose the state where your tax-exempt dividends came from" I don't know where to find this information.

I just imported forms 1099-div and 1099-B from Betterment and now am being asked to "Choose the state where your tax-exempt dividends came from" I don't see that info anywhere on either form - where should I be looking?

Unless the amount of your tax-exempt dividends are significant and you are filing in multiple states or they are enough to require you to file taxes in the states where they were generated, it's a moot point. Just pick a state.

what does significant mean, doesn't help if you don't give  a cut-off amount.... and if it is significant it still doesn't help me find the state on the 1099

agree - define significant!
