Can you use a 1040ez if you have a 1099r? I don't have the Turbotax desktop edition, I only use the one when you log in online and start there.

No.  If you look at the 1040EZ here

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040ez.pdf

you can see there's no line for retirement income.

Form 1040A or above will be required.

You would probably have to use the 1040A form and not the 1040EZ form. Turbo tax should guide you to the simplest option as you enter your information.
