My mom purchased the turbotax premier desktop software, and I also downloaded it onto my computer so I can file my own taxes. We both need to file NY state taxes. If she e-files it on her computer, can I still e-file it from my computer, with a different federal return?
Also, just to DOWNLOAD an additional state is $45, does this include the price to e-file that additional state?
She can use her Intuit account to download NY state to your computer. The e-file fee is $25 and is in addition to the price of the state software. You can avoid that e-file fee by printing the state return and mailing it.
...ooo,
....but one exception to the $25 state e-file charge...e-filing NY from the desktop software is free.
IF you buy, download, and use any other state software set...those other states have the extra e-file fee at $25 (for this time of year). So far, NY is the only state that has mandated a free e-file.
There is one free state program download with the Desktop program. It can prepare unlimited returns in that state. Then each state return including the first one is $25 to efile $20 before March 1). BUT BUT it is free to efile New York! That's the only state that is free.
You should be able to download the NY state program on your computer too.
Do you also need to download a different state? Sorry when you buy another different state program for $45 it does not include the efile fee. It is still $25 to efile the state.
So my mom and I can both file different NY taxes on our separate computers for free?
