your answer does not work for TT Premier for 2017: the person for whom addtl. form requested can't be changed with TT program Grrrrr...
What? I'll post a screen shot below. Delete that 1099R and re-enter it. And if you go back to review or edit a 1099R, one thing it does is resets your answers to the defaults so you have to go through and answer then all again. So go all the way to the end of the 1099R section and hit done.
thanx for the screen shot. Helps. But do you mean that once I do all the 1099Rs for "John," I click "done." Did, but did not take me back to the beginning. And, as u point out, if you go back to the beginning, you MAY have to re-enetr data for both ":Johgn" & "Mary." I really think this is a Turbo Tax--badly designed program--issue. I did not have this problem last year. And you have to do 1099R for each person separately to get calculations done correctly. Grrrr continues....
You can enter them in any order. To start a new one go to Federal - Wages&Income and find retirement plans in the list and start a new one. It’s just if you edit or review one that you have to fill that one out again. Not all of them.
No. You have to enter each 1099R form. And make sure you pick the right person when you enter it. It’s very important. After you enter the first 1099R you can add another.
The easiest way to get to the 1099-R entry screen is to simply search for 1099-R (upper- or lower-case, with or without the dash) in your TurboTax program and then click the "Jump to" link in the search results.
Enter a 1099R under
Federal Taxes on the left side
Wages & Income at the top
Then scroll way down to Retirement Plans and Social Security,
Then IRA, 401(k), Pension Plans (1099R) - click Start or Revisit
If you are filing a Joint return be sure to pick which person it is for.
If box 2a is zero or says unknown then leave it BLANK
After you enter the 1099R be sure to answer all the follow up questions on the next screens to determine how much is taxable or not. Go all the way to the end of the section. You have to enter it from the 1099R because there are codes on it you need to enter properly.
