Can we switch from a PC to a Mac in the middle of preparing a return?

The PC is crashing and we need to switch to another computer to finish.

If you are using online TurboTax you can use any computer or mobile device that has internet access.  Your tax return is saved in your online account.

If you are using the CD/download, you have a tougher problem.  If your computer is crashing, you may lose your tax return and have to start over on a different computer.   You can try saving what you have done so far on a back up device like a flash drive.     You will have to download the software to the new computer and start again.

That's what I feared. The site and phone AI assistants are thoroughly worthless. The phone AI kept telling me to sign into my account if I want to change my subscription -- which is obviously not the problem!

Thanks.

If you are using the program installed on your own computer (the desktop program) start by saving a backup copy of your tax data file to a secure location that is not acting up (like a flash drive).  Your tax data is in a document (like a word processor or spreadsheet document) with a name something like "John Smith 2023.tax2023".  The default location is your documents folder, but it might be someplace else.

Then, you need to install the program on a Mac.  If you bought the CD, it has both Mac and PC installers already.  If you bought the program as a PC download (direct from Turbotax on from another retailer), then you have two options.

1. Call support and ask for a free Mac download.  Yes, it's a hassle, sorry about that.

2. You could directly purchase a download of the Mac software.  Then apply for the 60 day no questions asked money back guarantee for the PC version.
